It's all perspective
I was too quick to judge. What can I say? I'm only human. Managed to break the ice recently. Got to know the colleagues a little better. They're a pretty wacky lot - Despite the suit. It must be the suit.
I've learnt a lot being a part of this community for the past 8 days. Things were a little more different than I expected. From the outside, they looked structured, organized, and mindless. Once you infiltrate into the core, you would probably see a zany bunch no different from the rest of the outside world. Don't get me wrong - These bunch of people know their jobs. They've got lives outside that uniformed shell. All you need is a little perspective.
Take where I work now as an example. Ever seen those television commercials of a really eloquent customer service personnel, all dressed up together with her earpiece, speaking with the best smile she could possibly put up. It is definitely amusing to make that contrast. They're all there, ready to do their jobs, no one can be better than them at what they do, but some things isn't just quite how you imagine them to be.
On a more personal note, I've passed all the necessary tests to qualify as a personal internet advisor. I'll make my first visit on 10th August 2004, Tuesday. The job has been pretty good to me so far - I've spoke to a lot of people and learnt a lot.
