Mommy dearest

Spent some time with my mother - She had an appointment with a client today. I wanted to do my hair, so she brought me to her stylist at Kimage. I had a cut and some colour added to my hair.

Mothers are one of a kind aren't they. Even at this age of 22, she would still spread her wings to shroud me like a protective hen: Making sure that I drink enough water, checking to see if I'm coming home for dinner, ensuring that I get enough sleep..

Mothers know their children best. They'll know when you're hiding something from them, or when you need help. More often are they the ones that initiate to help you when you're down - Even when you don't ask for it.

I can hear my mom preparing a glass of iced water for me. Appreciated.

Ever wondered how they came up with those old wives tales?

  • Don't point directly at the moon or the moon will cut your ear.
  • If you're naughty, I'll sell you to the karanguni man.
  • Cry some more? Later I tell the Baboo Singh to catch you.
  • Finish all the food on your plate or your future wife/husband will have pimples all over his face.

The irony, my mother is a beautician, or aesthetician to be exact. If all those were true, I'll probably be without ears, married to a sikh whom is full of acne. What on earth did the karanguni man and the Baboo Singh ever do to instigate our mothers to scare us like that. Where do they get all these to frighten their children? Is there some "Mother's Convention" that they all go to before actually becoming mothers?

It always puzzles me that ever mother seems to have used one or more of these phrases at one point of time or another. Maybe it's just our culture. Well, I'm glad for it.

Simple pleasures

Da Guyz & Mudpie
Da Guyz & Mudpie

Something that Da Guyz seldom do - Chill out at a coffee place, enjoying a pastry and a beverage. This shot reminds me of a scene off F.R.I.E.N.D.S. where the cast would sit around their favourite couch at Central Perk. Well today we're at Coffee Club at Holland Village, celebrating Choon Kiat's 22nd birthday. Come to think of it, his birthday is on 16th August, I'm late with blogging as usual.

Rock band, Pizza and Mudpie.. Mmm..

Was at the Hoobastank concert yesterday at Siloso beach - Sentosa. Everything was cool, except for the glaring fact that we were around 100 metres away from the band. Not that there were so many people there, but because of a segregation between the audience - The VIP and those that were not so important. There was about 50 metres of empty space between us. I'm not totally sure for the reason for this setup. In fact I'm giving the organiser the benefit of the doubt. Personally I'm thinking it was because of paying and non-paying customers - Our tickets were free.

Only found out about the concert on the day of the event, my aunt called me to ask if I wanted them. Wasn't sure what band it was at first, she called me telling me she had 4 tickets. I decided to go get them anyway. To my surprise they were the Hoobastank tickets. So I called Ivy, Alex and Khema and we headed down to Sentosa to watch the concert. We were late though, but didn't miss any of the band playing - It was some other band playing first. Hanged around a bit before heading down to Trapizza, some pizza place along the beach, for dinner - It was costly. We completed our meal by heading down to Coffee Club at Holland Village for my favourite Mudpie.

What can I say, it was a pleasant day - Out with my favourite people. Damm, the weekend is short - Too short.

That's life

Okay so I've started going out on appointments, and I am beat! My last appointment was at 9:15pm - Was supposed to be at 9.00pm. When my supervisor said don't be late for an appointment, he meant it - It snowballs. I was held back by a Chinese speaking customer. It was horrifying when he asked if I could converse in mandarin. I tried my best, and managed to communicate incorporating some English here and there - He understood.

Received my first warning from the office today - Was supposed to report back, informing them my movement. I know, sounds like the army right? There was some communication error, but no harm done.

Wish I could get more customer to utilize our services - Some people are just so apprehensive. I guess it's part of the job, some people are terrified that you try to sell them something.

On a side note, check out http://www.wholivesnearyou.com/ - It allows you to see who lives around your neighbourhood. Special mention of a friend Lionel - Interesting chap. It's
good to know more people in your neighbourhood. I would reminiscent about my younger years, playing at the playground with all those neighbours. I knew a good bulk of kids in my neighbourhood. As you grow older, these things just fade away like a dream that never happened - It's difficult to relive those days now.

Realisation: Damm, my first appointment tomorrow is a Chinese speaking customer!

Time got the better of me

I wish I could do this more often then I want to. Lets hope things will change with the coming weeks. Wanted to blog a bit on my meeting with Elizabeth on Monday, but it was a tiring day - Was late for my meeting with her. Did I mention what the meeting was for? Network Marketing - The term causes many to cower in fear. I'm just not interested in the whole concept of it - Business has never been my cup of tea. Met up with her that Monday evening to reject her offer.

I'm going for my first appointment tomorrow - It is pretty exciting. Hope that everything will turn out well. Haven't really practiced much for my presentations. Did pretty badly for the last few demostrations with my colleagues. Weiliang, my supervisor, will be there tomorrow. I'm fairly confident that I'll do okay. Just have to remain calm, and professional. I should put in more effort, but it's just so tiring after a day's work that you just want to kick back and relax for the rest of the day. It's comforting to know that it's the end of the week. Wait, I've still got an appointment tomorrow!
